the modern day movie experience
i have been quite the movie going gal as of late. i have my regular monday night movies with my dear friend jonathan, but then i have gone to a few on the weekends with other friends. i went to a movie saturday night, charlie and the chocolate factory, with my friend amanda and her boyfriend shaun. the movie was going along well and we were enjoying it despite a boy making a lot of noise kicking the back of someone’s seat. we continued the movie in good spirits and much delight during the songs and dancing. then almost toward the end of the movie someone comes up the side of the theater and starts yelling obscenities…not once but twice.
this raised a really good question, what happened to ushers at the movies? in the year 2005, even with all the technology, it seems as though we have not outgrown the need movie monitors. i have seen so many movies this summer i jokingly say i could be a movie critic. however, all were not pleasant movie going experiences. along with the incident above, i have sat through a movie in which my seat was being kicked, then there was the one where a girl/woman answered her ringing cell phone not once but twice…if you forgot the first time…ok, dang it…turn it off!
i personally go to the movies to enjoy myself…take myself out of the busy, rushing world and relax. i like to watch things that entertain me. i do not go to hear people having normal conversations, whispers are fine, people like to make comments to one another about the movie. on the other hand, when i can here a conversation between two people over one of the loudest action sequences of a movie…i find that to be intolerable. it’s annoying and i wish i could turn it off, but i can’t. i have respect enough for those i am sharing a theater with to turn off my cell phone and to talk in whispers to those who are sitting beside me. why does that seem so difficult for others? perhaps respect for others is what is lacking the most in this modern day society, but i not sure if there isn’t more to it.
i often never know what to write here and often feel as though i should force things out. i don’t want to be one who is known for ranting away thoughts and annoyances, but am i the only one that feels this way. i am not the only one, surely, who goes to the movies or has these experiences. i want everyone who goes to the movies to enjoy their experience. do we need to bring back the movie ushers of yesteryear?
